Upasana Performing Arts Center was founded in 2003 under Sonia Chaudhuri. We are dedicated towards spreading knowledge about Kathak and our South Asian heritage to the next generation.

Kathak is a classical dance style which originated in northern India. The term Kathak is derived from the Vedic Sanskrit word Katha which means "story" and Kathakar which means "the one who tells a story". Wandering Kathakars communicated stories from the great epics and ancient mythology through dance, songs and music in a manner similar to early Greek theatre. Kathak dancers tell various stories though their hand movements and footwork, but most importantly though their facial expressions.
